TAKE BACK YOUR SCHOOLS
In general, public schools follow guidance from the CDC as well as state & county public health department mandates and restrictions. This means that the way must be cleared at a state and local level for schools to be unshackled. However, teachers unions also play a huge role in determining the climate in schools, regardless of COVID.
There are a range of options available for taking back your schools:
-

REQUEST AN IEP OR 504 PLAN FOR YOUR CHILD – If your child struggles to breathe, think, concentrate, concentrate or suffers emotional while wearing a mask, suffers from adverse reactions such as headaches, etc. or has difficulty hearing or communicating with others while wearing a mask, then this is an option. The 504 Plan is a plan developed to ensure that a child who has a disability identified under the law and is attending an elementary or secondary educational institution receives accommodations that will ensure their academic success and access to the learning environment.
- Educators are required by law to meet with you as a parent to discuss accommodations. They cannot deny you a meeting or accommodation! Learn more about IEP and 504 Plans from Freedom Angels.
